Teaching

I have taught and assisted a range of courses in biology and evolution, from introductory lectures and practicals to specialized topics in entomology and behavioral ecology. I aim to create a learning environment where all students feel welcome, valued, and free to challenge themselves intellectually.

Outreach

Evolutionary biology and genomics are at the heart of societal and economic challenges of this century. But public understanding of recent advances in these fields, including the benefits and risks, is lagging behind. I believe in the critical role of scientists to inform the general public and support evidence-based decision making.

I love to engage in outreach events and to give tours of my insect breeding room to the general public. Many of the insects I study (e.g., stick insects, rhinoceros beetles) are incredibly charismatic so they have great potential to grab attention and raise public awareness around these fields and invertebrate conservation.
